Do I, as an optician, need to make medical diagnoses or am I liable for errors?
No. As an optician, your responsibility is limited to performing the screening and entering the customer data. You do not make medical diagnoses and are not liable for the medical conclusions or results shown in the report.
How much does the screening cost for my customers?
You are free to set your own pricing for the screening. We do not impose any pricing requirements.
How does the screening benefit my business?
On the one hand, you can charge your customers a fee for the screening. On the other hand, our optician partners consistently report that screenings attract new customers to their stores and often lead to the sale of higher-value eyewear. Both effects should be considered when assessing the overall profitability.
What happens if an abnormality is detected during a screening?
We do not leave patients on their own. Through our partnership with Sanoptis and our nationwide network of ophthalmologists, we ensure timely access to specialist care. Customers can conveniently book an appointment online and receive prompt follow-up instead of waiting months for a consultation. In addition you have the option to book a doctors appointment for your customer through the optician-dashboard
Does your cooperation with dm-drogerie markt make you a competitor?
No. At dm, no intraocular pressure measurements are performed and staff are not permitted to provide any consultation. Any abnormal refractions identified at dm cannot be addressed in-store and are referred to opticians, creating new customer opportunities. Our partnership with dm helps bring the topic of eye health into the public spotlight, benefiting even opticians who do not have a participating dm store nearby.
Do I need to invest in expensive equipment to participate in the screening?
No. We are compatible with all common fundus cameras and multifunction devices, so no additional investment is required. A full list of compatible hardware is available here (link). If you do not yet have suitable equipment, we are happy to share our preferential conditions with leading manufacturers such as Topcon, DAO and bon.
What happens to the customer data entered into the platform?
All customer data is processed exclusively on German servers in full compliance with the GDPR and is used solely for medical evaluation. Our AI is MDR- and CE-certified and therefore meets all EU-wide safety and quality requirements for medical devices. Customers may optionally allow their data to be used in anonymized form for research purposes, for example by institutions such as Charité Berlin. Strategic partners of Skleo do not have access to customer data.
