FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Skleo.
What happens when employees receive a results report with an abnormality?
In the event of an abnormality, Skleo closes the gap in care. We enable a direct connection to partner medical practices from the Skleo network to ensure prompt clarification and treatment.
What is the advantage of an eye screening from Skleo compared to going directly to an ophthalmologist?
Regular eye care is essential. However, the traditional route of visiting an ophthalmologist’s office often presents two obstacles for purely preventive eye health checks: 1. Long waiting times: It can take several months to get an appointment for a purely preventive examination. 2. Private costs: A detailed screening without specific suspicion of disease is usually an individual health service (IGeL). These costs, often €90 or more, are not covered by statutory health insurance. Skleo offers a smart and efficient alternative directly in the company. If the findings show no abnormalities, your employees have the certainty of high-quality preventive care at significantly lower costs and save themselves the separate doctor’s appointment. In addition to the time savings for employees, Skleo minimizes lost work time for you as an employer: a short work interruption of a few minutes replaces the up to half-day absence that is usually associated with external specialist appointments and travel time.
How much organizational effort is involved for me as a company?
Minimal. Skleo is a “full service and plug & play” solution. We provide templates for internal communication and a digital booking tool. All we need on site is access to the room – our team takes care of the entire setup, dismantling, and execution independently.
Is an ophthalmologist present during the eye screenings?
The on-site eye health checks are performed by our trained staff. All results are then evaluated and validated telemedically by one of our ophthalmologists in Germany. The validating ophthalmologist is named in the report and is available to answer any medical questions.
What are the benefits for employees if they visit an ophthalmologist with their retinal images and report?
If our report documents an abnormality, a timely visit to an ophthalmologist is strongly recommended. The key advantage: employees are no longer visiting “without cause”, but bring a well-founded results report with them. This report provides the doctor with an objective basis for establishing and substantiating a medically justified suspicion. This significantly increases the likelihood that further examinations will be covered by health insurance.
Does the employer have access to the individual test results?
No. Individual reports are sent exclusively to the email address specified by the employee. The employer only receives an anonymized statistical evaluation (e.g., abnormality rate) to document the success of the measure for the occupational health management report.
When do our employees receive the medically validated results report?
Results are usually sent by email within 24 hours. In many cases, we significantly beat this time frame.
How does Skleo ensure data protection?
We guarantee compliance with the current General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All data is transmitted in encrypted form and hosted on servers in Nuremberg to ensure the highest security standards.
Who performs the eye screenings on site?
The eye screenings are performed by our trained staff.
What equipment is used for screening?
We bring the complete infrastructure for a comprehensive eye health check:
– Fundus camera (high-resolution retinal analysis)
– Autorefractometer (determination of vision and glasses prescription)
– Tonometer (measurement of eye pressure)
How is care provided at smaller or decentralized locations?
We connect decentralized teams via our nationwide network of partner hubs (e.g., specialized optical stores). This ensures that employees have access to the same standard of medical care regardless of their location.
Can Skleo provide material for internal communication and promotion of the offer?
Yes, of course. We are happy to assist you with internal announcements and provide you with suitable communication materials as needed.
What does Skleo need to conduct the eye screening?
To ensure everything runs smoothly, we need one table and two chairs per screening station. A stable internet connection is required to securely transfer the data to our cloud.
How long does an eye screening take?
The eye screening ncludes retinal images of both eyes taken with a fundus camera, a vision test with a refractometer, and measurement of eye pressure with a tonometer. We plan for about 5 minutes for this, assuming that your employees have signed the consent form online in advance, provided their personal data, and completed the short medical history questionnaire.
How many eye screenings can be performed in one day?
We scale flexibly according to your needs. We calculate 80 eye screening per device set per day of use. We cover higher capacities modularly with additional sets/days. We integrate walk-ins flexibly.
Can Skleo take over the entire G37 examination/preventive care for computer workstations?
Our eye screening is a preventive measure for the early detection of eye diseases and visual impairments. It includes an eye test and a retinal scan, but does not replace a full occupational health examination in accordance with G37 guidelines.
How frequently should eye screenings be repeated?
“We recommend basing this on medical relevance and operational goals:
– From age 40: Annual screening is recommended for effective early detection (e.g., glaucoma).
– Under age 40: A cycle of 2 to 5 years is usually sufficient.
Skleo offers maximum flexibility here too. Our system allows us to prioritize participation quotas and manage intervals according to need. This ensures that your budget is allocated where the medical risk is highest.”
